First In-Person Presentation

Thank you so much for supporting this Daniel Dreamgazer event. The whole goal of Daniel Dreamgazer was to provide a Daniel Seminar like no one has ever seen. One with comic book style illustrations accompanied with dramatic storytelling and voices.

I had the chance to do that at the Manhattan Christian Academy 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. From the moment the teacher introduced my brother and I as comic book creators they were already making ‘ooo’ sounds.

Then I started telling the story of Daniel chapter 1: “In A Strange Land”.

They were fixated in. Shocked at the death of one of the soldiers. Laughed during humorous moments when the names of the main characters were being changed. They were totally invested. And when I ended the chapter by saying “to be continued” they were like “aww”

I followed it up with a quiz at the end. The kids were excited to answer the questions.

Then I told them that you guys paid for them to receive comic books each. They were shocked and so thrilled as they tried to contain themselves in their seats. They couldn’t believe it. They said thank you so many times. They couldn’t stop saying thank you.

The way that I got this amazing opportunity was because of a providential encounter at the post office when I was mailing out book 4 to the people who backed our latest Kickstarter. When I made it to the post office they told me I was too late. It was too close to closing time for them to process all of my books that I would be mailing out. They told me to go to a different post office that closes later.

So I rush over there, not knowing if I would have enough time to get there, mail off the books, and get back in time to do this series that I was doing online. Time was really tight, but I figured I’d give it a try.

I arrive at the post office and I was carrying this big box of books trying to find the entrance. The doors I went to were closed and had a sign saying that the entrance was around the corner. So I lugged the box filled with all these packages around the corner and I couldn’t find the entrance. Every open door I walk up to turned out to be the wrong entrance. So much for just going around the corner… I ended up walking around the entire building. After the lap, I was about to just get back into my car and head home, but I decide to try walking around the corner again. My legs were tired and I was running out of time, but when I turned the corner, I realized that there were some closed doors I had walked passed that turned out the be the entrance.

I got inside and there was a huge line. Now I really didn’t think there was going to be enough time. But I walked to the back of the line and to my pleasant surprise I see someone I know! It’s JoVeda, someone who lives two blocks away from one of the churches I pastor. She was right in front of me in the line! I said hi to her and she was shocked and we start talking.

She looked down at my box that was filled with brown packages and asked me what I was mailing out. I told her I was delivering the comic books that my brother and I have been working on. She got excited and asked if I can come over to her church school to something for her students.

I told her that I was actually doing a series at another church where I tell the story of Daniel and I use the illustrations from the comic books. She looks at me and says “Well I’ll tell you what… I am going to have you come in and do chapel for my group of kids.”

I looked at the time and I could see that there wasn’t enough time anymore to mail the books that day. It was time to leave. However, I wasn’t frustrated, because my time wasn’t wasted coming to the post office. I was there to see her. I told her I had to leave, but I was going to try to raise funds to afford to give away our comic books to all her kids when I came and told the story. She says she has 62 students in the grades that would attend the chapel.

From then I posted on facebook and eventually sent an email out to our Kickstarter backers. You guys came through in an awesome way. You guys accumulatively donated 129 books.
All the teachers were so pleased with presentation and what you guys did for these kids. JoVeda was so happy. She wanted to say a big thank you to you guys. I told her that we raised double what we needed and so if the school allowed me I could present the next chapter. She quickly agreed. She told the kids about me coming back and they also got excited.

So not only did your donation provide all these kids with book 1 in this series, but now when I go back and tell the story of Daniel chapter 2, they will all receive Book 2: The Man With the Golden Head.

Thank you for your generous donation. I praise God for you. These children were totally blessed.

Aww, thank you for those kind words. I'm so glad that he enjoyed it. If the school has me back hopefully I can present the third book.
